What does it mean to build, repair, and care for the land
using what's already around us?
Inspired by the beaver, nature's original ecosystem engineer, grounded in repair, adaptation,
and care, Land Justice and Stewardship explores how we reshape our environments to support life.
Through workshops, activations, and shared practices, neighbors have built real, scientific skills in soil remediation and come to understand living ecosystems as records of the land's story and as a roadmap for repairing and healing what's been harmed.

HOW DO WE BECOME ECOSYSTEM ENGINGEERS
IN OUR OWN COMMUNITIES?
Since it's origin, the Earth Month Convergence has explored this question and deepened it's Land Justice and Stewardship track over the years.
In 2023, through hands-on workshops like Surviving the Anthropocene with Mushrooms & Bokashi Composting provided participants with direct opportunities to explore sustainable practices and environmental restoration.
In 2024, sessions like Breaking Ground: Reimagining Food Systems Beyond Agrochemicals and Factory Farms and On Climate Survival, explored pathways to food sovereignty, and community-building and organizing in the face of ongoing climate-related disasters.
In 2025, our Community Soil Lab encouraged participants to bring soil from gardens, local parks, community plots, even plant pots at home — and tested it together, side by side. Soil testing has long been locked behind expensive equipment and specialized expertise; the Community Soil Lab broke that lock open, making it collective science in practice: hands in the dirt, knowledge shared freely, and a clearer picture of the land we all share.
Alongside it, the track came alive through:
Live Soundscapes: Echoes of Land and Community — An immersive sound experience that listened to the land as much as it spoke over it, tuning us into the ecosystems around us.
Drag Storytelling Hour — Joy, imagination, and community-building for all ages, because stewardship is also about the communities we build along the way.
Found Material Mask Making — Everyday, discarded materials transformed into art, a hands-on practice in seeing new life and possibility in what's already around us.
